Michael Black
Michael is one of the founding directors at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Tübingen, Germany, where he leads the Perceiving Systems department. His work on human bodies spans vision, graphics and learning and includes work on facial expression recognition, human pose estimation, tracking and action recognition. He is an Honorarprofessor at the University of Tuebingen, Visiting Professor at ETH Zürich, and Adjunct Professor (Research) at Brown University. His work has won several awards including the IEEE Computer Society Outstanding Paper Award (1991), Honorable Mention for the Marr Prize (1999 and 2005), the 2010 Koenderink Prize for Fundamental Contributions in Computer Vision, and the 2013 Helmholtz Prize for work that has stood the test of time. He is a co-founder and board member of Body Labs Inc. He is a foreign member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.
Matthew Loper
Matthew works at Industrial Light and Magic and is completing his PhD in the Perceiving Systems department at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems. Matt is an expert on body shape modeling and has several patents and papers on the topic. He is also active in differential rendering.
Javier Romero
Javier is a research scientist in the Perceiving Systems department at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems. He did his PhD at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm Sweden. Javier is an expert on human pose estimation, grasping, 3D body modeling, and body shape estimation from Kinect.
Gerard Pons-Moll
Gerard is a research scientist in the Perceiving Systems department at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems. During his PhD at the TNT lab at the Leibniz University of Hannover he was lucky enough to visit and work with people of many stimulating computer vision and computer graphics labs at MPI-Informatik, University of Toronto, and Microsoft Research, Cambridge. Gerard is an expert on 3D human tracking and soft-tissue dynamics.
Federica Bogo
Federica is a postdoctoral researcher in the Perceiving Systems department at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems. She is an expert on 3D mesh registration and is the the lead creator of the FAUST dataset. Federica's work involves estimating high quality 3D meshes from low-quality RGB-D sequences and applications of body shape in medicine.
Naureen Mahmood
Naureen has a masters degree from Texas A&M and she is currently a research programmer at the MPI for Intelligent Systems. Naureen is the author of several SIGGRAPH papers on 3D human body shape modeling and motion capture. She has been deeply involved in developing software systems for body modeling and will lead the programming portions of the tutorial.
